Martyrs Day also known as Shaheed Diwas is observed on 30th of January every year. This day is observed in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. On this day every Indian pays tribute to all those freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for the nation. On 30th January, Gandhi Ji was assassinated during his prayers by Nathuram Godse.

Significance of Martyrs Day 

Martyrs Day is observed all across the country. It is observed to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters. This day is celebrated to remember the legacy of deceased freedom fighters.
In addition to this, The Prime Minister of India and  other political leaders pay floral tribute on Rajghat (crematorium ground of Mahatma Gandhi). Schools and colleges across the country, conduct seminars, essay competitions, quiz competitions on this day.

Why do we celebrate Martyrs' Day

We celebrate Martyrs' day on 30th January and 23rd March every year. 30th March is to commemorate the death of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, &  23rd March is pay homage to 3 freedom fighters namely Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar & Shivaram Rajguru. The three men were hanged to death by the British.

Who was Mahatma Gandhi?

Mahatma Gandhi also known as The Father of the nation, was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar in Gujarat, India. Gandhiji's full name was  Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. 
Gandhiji was married at the age of 13. After his marriage, he went to England for higher education.
Gopal Krishna Gokhale requested Gandhi Ji to return to India. In Jan 1915 Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa. 

Mahatma Gandhi was a famous and influential political and spiritual leader of the Independence movement of India. He also received international recognition for his non-violent protest approach to achieve freedom from the British. Mahatma Gandhi is not only a name but a symbol of Love, Peace, a affection & non violence not only in India but in the whole world.

The above principles of Mahatma Gandhi made him popular all over the world. He was given so many titles like; The Father of the Nation & Bapu, etc.

Millions of people, political leaders had supported his principles, ideology, thoughts and followed his footsteps. He led the Non-Cooperation movement  and the famous Dandi March Movement. And Finally India got Independence on 15 August 1947

Today I am going to deliver a speech on Martyrs Day.

We celebrate Martyrs Day to commemorate the death of the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. 

I am honoured to talk about the importance of martyrs day and the teaching of the father of our country. 

Martyrs’ Day also called Shaheed Diwas is observed on 30th of January every year in the whole country to pay tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives  for the freedom and progress of the country.

Gandhiji,  one such great and enthusiastic freedom fighter who always regarded humanity as his religion. He followed the path of peace and non-violence to fight against the British. 

He was an avid believer of non-violence (Satyagraha).
He and his principles is loved and followed by the millions of people all over the globe.
